Pre-Diagnosis Support

Making a referral to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

The best way to make a referral if your child is over 6, is to talk to the SENCo at your child’s school.  Your SENCo can refer directly to CAMHS.  Although you can request a referral via your GP, the GP may not have sufficient information regarding how your child functions across settings.  We would therefore recommend that you talk to your SENCo in the first instance.

Psychoeducation Sessions for Parents & Carers

Understanding Autism Together: Parents and carers of children aged 6 to 18 years with an autism diagnosis from Enfield CAMHS are invited to join a series of 3 online small group training sessions, led by a psychologist who works across CAMHS the Enfield Advisory Service for Autism (EASA) and educational settings to support you in your journey onwards.

While parents and carers are experts on their own children, receiving an autism diagnosis can bring new questions, emotions, and learning opportunities for the whole family. Whether you are feeling uncertainty, relief, curiosity, or concern, these feelings among others are all common and part of the journey.

The training sessions are designed to help parents and carers reflect on the meaning of the diagnosis within their family and in relation to the wider local context. We will explore this together and share information on pathways for support going forwards. Psychoeducation aims to provide a containing space to reflect on what autistic children may experience, enabling environments to be adapted and optimised to support them more effectively. It provides a next step to making a bridge between the diagnosis and services which can support you.

Confidentiality: In joining the group, we ask that parents, complete a registration form and confirm that they have read and agree to this Confidentiality Agreement to ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone attending.
